Minor surgery

Minor surgery is defined as " any surgical procedure that does not involve general anesthesia or respiratory assistance". Minor surgery can involve the use of local, regional anesthesia, or nerve blocks.

Which conditions can be treated? Under Local Anesthesia

  • Removal of skin tags, moles, cysts, or other worrisome and unsightly lesions
  • Pre-cancerous and cancerous skin lesions
  • Lipomas/Fatty tumors
  • Biopsy of growths / skin lesions
  • Scar revision
  • Incision and Drainage of an abscess
  • Warts  treatment / destruction with liquid Nitrogen or cautery, including Penile & vaginal warts and Molluscum warts
  • Hemorrhoids excision treatment
  • In-growing toe nails
  • Laceration and Incision Repair of Skin & Soft Tissue

Will it hurt?

You will feel a needle prick and a slight burning sensation when the local anaesthetic  is being injected. After that the procedure is pain free. 

How long does it take?

This depends on the condition treated.
Typically a lesion being removed by electro-cautery will take 10-15 minutes.
Anything needing excision and stitches afterwards will be up to half an hour or more.

How many visits will I need to make?

This will depend upon the nature of your condition and the treatment required.
If you have multiple lesions we may have to treat them in two or three sessions.
We will advise you during your initial consultation.

What if there is a risk of malignancy, or condition is too serious to be treated locally?

Prior to the minor surgery the doctor will examine you and determine the scope of your problem(s). If the risks of the local procedure are too great, you will be referred to an appropriate specialist.
